has some flaws

The repertoire in this book is pretty good for classic rock fans. Of course, due to licensing restrictions it doesn't have EVERY great classic rock tune. There are some fatal flaws, however. The chords and lyrics are extremely small. Forget about using this book while playing live or jamming. The book would have been much better if it had been written in "real book" format instead of cramming all of the music and lyrics on one page. Also, songs that are tuned to E flat are sometimes notated as the actual chord shapes (without notating the tuning) and sometimes notated as the flatted chords. In other words, an open E chord would be notated as E flat. This is an awful thing to do to guitarists, especially on guitar based songs. I had to do a lot of crossing out and rewriting in chords. I also found a few of the chords to be incorrect when I went and learned them from CD. It's good as a reference for learning songs quickly, but you can't use it while playing.

Not really "Classic", but Pretty Good

Fake Books have just the melody/lyric line (staff); piano players will only have their right hand busy; the left "fakes" it. And there's no tabs and songs are in their actual keys, so you need to read music. But if you do and either are good at theory or play a non-chording instrument, they're fantastic.

This book has a very impressive selection of songs, but "Classic Rock" doesn't describe it. More like "SuperHits of the 70s and 80s". There's some rock, some pop, some glam, a pretty wide variety of stuff people will likely request or that you might enjoy playing, but it's not all "rock" and certainly not "classic rock" - it's got songs from Heart, Bon Jovi and Jefferson Starship, fer cryin' out loud! Very playable stuff.

I enjoy this book a lot. I also enjoy the Disney Fake Book and the Ultimate Fake Book; there's not much overlap between them. The breadth of styles (again, it's not all classic rock) is a nice touch, and most of the songs were really big hits at one time. There are some omissions and excesses. No Dire Straits, but 22 Beatles songs. Six Elton John, but no Candle/Funeral for a Friend? No Led Zeppelin but FOUR Lennon/Ono (and one Lennon solo) songs? But on average it's a great collection.

This is how a fake book should be organized

I'm a professional musician. I play a wide range of types of music, including alot of standards from the 40s and 50s. However, I was wanting to get more 'hits' from the 70s. After searching extensively online and in stores, I settled on this book and, so far, am happy that I did. I like that no song is more than two pages long. Most are only a page length. As a musician, this means I don't have to turn pages, especially when sight-reading a tune. The tablulature is clear and fairly easily readable though I'd prefer that most tunes would spread across two pages so that the print could be larger (especially as I grow older and now need reading glasses). I'm 50 years old and most of these tunes are very familiar to me. The arrangements are quite good (often including little riffs or fills that help define the tune). My copy has a plastic comb which makes it open and stay open easily. I recommend this book.

There's a great plot here being overwhelmed by sex scenes

Can dark erotica have too much sex? I guess the answer in this case is Yes. A great dark read balances advancing the plot with embracing the erotica. There were too many rape scenes that weren't particularly sexy or even dark. I think we got that Anna is toy to be passed around pretty early on. Endless scenes of this happening just got boring. It doesn't tell anything more about Anna - we know she accepts her life; it doesn't tell us anything more about Devin - this is what he's been plotting to do with her since birth. It did tell us that Alex is weak, but we see that from other aspects of the story. The book could have been shorter and tighter if half of those scenes were eliminated. I found myself skipping over many of these scenes without losing the thread of the story.

The background plot - an illuminati like cult is trying to take over the US government - didn't advance all that much. We did see a couple of politician succumb to Devin, but to what end remains unclear. There is more paranormal activity than the last book, but I feel somewhat confused that the Immortals in the US want to allow the Elders have more power as history says this is a bad thing for the Immortals. Thus, the motivation remains unclear. This is a long book - we should know more.

Anna had moments of growth - she has some powers - but then those moments got cast aside instead of developed. Alex seemed to descend into pussydom as he realized that Devin really was more powerful than he was (of course he was - he's an Elder and been at this game longer, as well as being comfortable in his unapologetic dark ruthlessness - why is Alex's dad not helping more?).

Despite this, I will read the next one. I like this dystopian, paranormal world. I am hoping that Anna and Alex find some power, either together or separately, to fight back against Devin. I am hoping that Anna spends less time being raped and more time living.

I Love this Book!

Entwined is perfectly named second novel by the brilliant author Marissa Honeycutt. It is unique in premise and absolutely a must read for fans of dark erotica. Read the warning and believe it. If the warning makes you nervous this book is not for you. If you read the warning and think that sounds intriguing then go buy a copy now and start reading the best book I have read in years.

This is a wonderfully crafted, well thought out, and beautifully written book. Anna’s life is horrific, complicated and manipulated since before her birth. Devin desires power by using Anna, Alex has intruded into Devin’s plans and becomes her Master along with Devin. Life becomes complicated as Anna’s new Masters have different expectations and goals for her. Making things more complicated are her own desires and talents that she has yet to fully explore.

Anna is a lovely girl/woman. I say girl/woman because at 20 she is both worldly and naïve. Unlike most young women she is a sex slave, learning the world and dealing with constant abuse. She is charming, trusting and kind and the sort of person you would want as a friend.

Alex is a complicated man and may make the best hero ever-- if he proves himself worthy. Anna’s other Master Devin is evil and I’m glad I have never stood near him with a sharp object. He is a master manipulator and a character I love to hate. Devin may be one of the best bad guys ever.

I am a little in love with Greg.

Warning: there are several scenes in this book that will turn your stomach with the graphic terror cruelty or violence. This book is not for the faint of heart, but if you stick with the journey it will be completely worth it.

This is a not a standalone novel, but it is also huge novel at around 157,000 words. If you have not yet read Enslaved, Life of Anna then you will need to pick that book up first.

I was given a copy of this book to read, but not in exchange for a review. I have also pre-ordered a copy. I just really love this book and feel very lucky to read drafts of this book along the way. So congratulations on the publication of your second book. Your #1 fan.

A bit much

when I started reading the series I was thinking there was only gonna be a total of 3...but 5? I don't know if I can stomach another 3. I do like the storyline, which is why I continued with the second installment. And I like dark. The author sends a warning that the other books are much darker than the first, which was pretty dark. At first I didn't think so, but after the first half, yes it is very VERY dark. it seems like anna gets raped and tortured on just about every page.

I know that anna has been trained to be submissive and weak minded. And during the first book I found it sweet the way she was so trusting and forgiving. Almost childlike. But this book I just wanted to smack her and tell her to wake up! I mean a boy beats her and rapes her in the limo, and then she is sad to leave him. grrrrr.

And Alex. useless in this book. I'll read the next one, but if she and Alex don't get a little bit empowered, I can't read anymore.

Surprisingly condescending reviews

Although it contains a wealth of useful information and is frequently entertaining, SIXTIES SHOCKERS is marred by a number of condescending reviews. Mexican films, for instance, always seem to be treated patronizingly - even when the authors admit that they are done well. While all too ready to assert the campy merits of some truly atrocious grade Z films, they give many more-than-competent foreign films short shrift indeed. In fact much of the book seems permeated by that vague snobbery common among reviewers who don't much care for horror fims, or those who enjoy them as unintended comedy. It's an unfortunate failing in an otherwise valuable work.

Great Fun for the Baby Boomer

As a baby boomer who grew up reading Famous Monsters and loving the horror and sci. fi. films of the '50s and '60s, I greatly enjoyed this book. The book begins with an overview of the horror films of the 1960s going year by year and going into detail on the most important films of that particular year. The second part and the bulk of the book are nice, sometimes fairly long reviews of the horror films of the decade in alphabetical order. And what films are covered!
We get the great Poe films from Roger Corman starring the incomparable Vincent Price, my favorite Hitchcock films: "The Birds" and "Psycho" and the horror films of the master showman himself William Castle, "Mr Sardonicus" and "Homicidal." We get the Dracula and Frankenstein films, as well as the other classic films, from Hammer Pictures starring the wonderful Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. The living legend Ray Harryhausen is touched on with "Jason and the Argonauts" and "Mysterious Island." (Yes, I know that many of the films mentioned seem more sci. fi or fantasy than horror, but I love these films so who cares?) We get cult films like "Dementia 13" and "The Day of the Triffids," little-remembered gems like "Dark Intruder" and "Chamber of Horrors," and even Irwin Allen's 1960 "The Lost World." After the major reviews, there are shorter one or two paragraph reviews on some other favorites like Irwin Allen's "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea," George Pal's wonderful "The Time Machine" and even the Vincent Price starrer Jules Verne's "Master of the World." There are so many of my favorites mentioned, I almost overdosed on the book.
The writers can be quite critical at times really bashing in an amusing manner many of the little-remembered grade Z horror films. Yet they can give highly positive reviews to other low budget films like "The Day Mars Invaded Earth", "The Curse of the Fly" or "Caltiki, the Immortal Monster." As stated their highly negative reviews can be quite amusing and in the course of the reviews we get various blurbs from individuals who starred or helped make these films. In many of the reviews, we even learn what the second feature was that played with these films.
This book is published by McFarland and, like many of their books, is a little pricey. However it is well-worth the money if you love and remember so many of these films like I do. This is the perfect summer book to relax with while sitting on your porch or out in your backyard. I highly recommend it.

Disappointing reviews, but a great overview of titles

Not sure how the other reviewers give this book the superlative ratings they do. It is good, but not superb. For my part, I expect a review book, especially a "critical" filmography, to show a bit of discernment, and also a superior knowledge of both the current release market (DVD and Blu Ray now) and the regard for horror movies amongst other reviewers, the public, and even possibly the director's peers. Onibaba is reviewed in the peculiar "more movies" section stating laughably "Although certainly horrific, the movie's horror/fantasy elements remain minor." Minor? It's all about horror in the end! This is widely known as one of the creepiest films in the world, and the fact that the mask can't be removed in the end is certainly fantastic and a horror movie classic moment. Furthermore going on to compare it to Kuroneko (a "full-tilt supernatural chiller") the authors weaken their point, because Onibaba is the stronger movie. For every good review they come up with, there are a score of disappointing reviews as well. I was surprised to see negative reviews of a diverse range of titles, from The Pit And The Pendulum to Mill Of The Stone Women. The latter review is especially strange, stating Though the ads promised 'A CHILLING EXPERIENCE,/ this Mill offers a mostly BORING one." That's certainly a professional opinion! It is also contrary to how the movie is viewed by a number of other horror afficiandos -- the movie is creepy, atmospheric, and nearly as classic as Franju's Eyes Without A Face. Pit And The Pendulum, even for a budget horror, is a superb film, evidence of which can be seen in the current DVD/Blu Ray release of Corman's World, where director and actor Ron Howard speaks about its effective ad campaign and how it affected him. It almost seem if a film is made too much on the cheap it won't be reviewed favorably here, although unlike the authors I found Dementia 13, Blood Bath, and Spider Baby to be horror masterpieces despite their flaws.

On the plus side the authors give high marks to Kill, Baby, Kill, by Bava, Horrible Dr. Hichcock, and Horror Castle (Virgin of Nuremberg), as well as fascinating details of production -- some gleaned from other, acknowledged sources. Another minor quibble in re Bava -- it would have been nice to note, as Tim Lucas does in his biography, that other Italian directors loved to come watch Bava films, including Fellini, Antonioni, and others: that's just how well he was regarded by them. The index is very good, though it could have been improved by bold numbers indicating the exact review of a film (e.g. Planet Of The Apes, covered under the "More Movies" section, but referred to elsewhere), and includes some alternate title cross-referencing (Virgin of Nuremberg as alternate title, as well as L'orribile segreto del dottor Hichcock, but not Operazione Paura for Kill, Baby, Kill), and hence is an accessible and useful work. It is also well illustrated with photographs.

All in all a useful, and interesting, overview of a decade, albeit with uneven reviews.

I personally think this book of Duffy is quite useful, especially if you own a car before 95. After reading the book, I can detect most of the problems of my Volvo 960. Well, at least I understand what the mechanic says and whether s/he is lying to him based on the reasoning...Cheap book but useful.

A little pricey ... but totally worth it

At first I was put off by the price (any book that has to put a comma in the purchase price scares me a little, call me frugal). I reluctantly bought a copy; I was doubtful it would be worth the purchase price. Boy, was I shocked! By page 195 I was hooked, I could not put it down. Upon completion, I do have to admit to experiencing a little buyer's remorse, but I chalk that up to the usual low of "missing" a book once you finish it. I give it four stars, and the only reason I couldn't give it the full 5 was due to the book costing over three thousand dollars.

NOTE: I like hardcovers, but you may want to consider the paperback on this one and save yourself $3,815.

This man was a godsend. He will be missed. This book is a treasure and so on target. Unfortunately, most people still pay attention to what their doctors tell them. If they paid more attention to nutrition, they'd be a lot healthier.

I have learned soooooo much about the natural way to good health from Dr. William Campbell Douglass. I haven't needed or taken medications in my entire adult life. I highly recommend this book and anything else that Dr. Douglass writes!
