This Book Delivers

I felt this book gave a clear understanding of the components that were listed. It wasn't too bogged down with technical jargon that you couldn't understand what was being written about the components. For me, this book provided valuable information that has helped me in my understanding components better than I did before I purchased and read the book. An example, for instance, was a drawing on an 8-pin opamp that I had been trying to find out what each pins function was. The drawing was clear, and defined each opamp pin with definitions. This was very helpful and useful in my analog electronics circuit building. Personally, I felt like the book was well worth the money. And now, I would not be without it in my library.

Not a reference, and not an introductory text

The book's subtitle is "A Complete Reference for Project Builders". It should be "A Glossing Over for People Who Already Know About Electronics".
The first half of the book is an (incomplete) in-depth explanation about electricity, resistance, capacitance, and inductance. The next 75 pages cover semiconductors, going in-depth about junctions then diodes, then glossing over the various transistor types.
The last third of the book is a thorough glossing over of various ICs, transducers, and 10 pages on switches.
In other words, don't get this book if you're a beginner, because you will be confused by what it leaves out. Don't get this book if you are looking for a reference, because you will be frustrated by what it leaves out. And don't get it if you are looking for a refresher on electronics theory, as you will be dissatisfied with it's overly simplistic explanations.

About the Author
George Ehrenhaft has been writing for Barron's for over three decades. During that time he has been the author or co-author of books on the SAT, the ACT, and both the AP English Literature and AP English Language exams. Other titles relate to English grammar and essay writing, especially writing college application essays. He has also written several Barron's Book Notes titles about literature, including The Grapes of Wrath. and A Streetcar Named Desire.

Ehrenhaft spent most of his career teaching English in Westchester County, New York, at Fox Lane and Mamaroneck High Schools. He is now a resident of Moraga, California, where he has become a prolific watercolor painter.

This book helped my daughter get a 5 on her AP exam! Without it, she wouldn't have the extra practice and strategies she could only get from a source made specifically to help on the AP Test, as apposed to relying strictly on her textbook or her teacher who has 50+ students to prepare.

Joseph S. Nye is University Distinguished Service Professor at and former Dean of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He also served as�a Deputy to the Undersecretary of State in the Carter Administration, Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs in the Clinton Administration, and Chair of the National Intelligence Council.
