A Wonderful Story

President's Murder book is a wonderful story about people that have the political power. The book describes the characters such as, Alex Dino is great man, he is smart and clever, so he understands the situation and he assumes with coldness. He keeps the police in suspense. He knows that he will die soon, but he didn't have alternative because the chief of police knows and it is seems the chief of the military knows. The people in the towns don't like the policeman and military, so they help Alex Dino. It seems to the people in the town that Dino wasn't the president's murder. Eva Hine is the chief policeman. She is strong, hard and evil, so she is very cool and dangerous. She received the order from New President. Felix is police officer, he is a good man and an excellent worker, but he received the order from Eva Hine his Chief policeman he didn't want do it, but he is the only police officer, he only accomplished an order. Martha is an old woman; she represents feelings of the town and she is very nice and a good woman. She helps Alex Dino.

I think that the author was inspired by the event of John F. Kennedy is murder. I think that the president's murder story was always an actual story, because no people were ever satisfied with a president, so he always has enemies, but also many people are his friends. The author had the vision of seeing the past, present and future of politics. The story of President's murder teaches me how different people act, so the political power is most powerful, the policeman and military are second most powerful and civil people the third most powerful.

The President's Murderer story is like a people of different ages that are interested in politics and mysteries.

The President's Murderer

This story talks about a convict who escaped from prison and everybody thought he killed the old president. The new president ordered the Chief of Police to kill the president’s murderer. So the Inspector was in charge of this case with his partner Adam to arrest the convict who was President’s murderer. The convict kept running and running.

At first, I liked this story, because it made me keep reading down and I didn’t feel bored. But I don’t like the end of story much. It’s not fair for the convict and it seems that the story is not really finished. If I were author, I would like to change the end of story. I hope the story has good ending.

From this story, I learn something. People can’t just see everything on one side or only on the surface. We have to watch inside and find out the real answer. Maybe the bad man is not really bad.

The President's Murderer by Jennifer Basset, is a book of action from the start to the end. Jennifer as a official writer for Oxford, spares no danger and adventure in this plot it a book directed to people who are learning English as a second language, ideal for beginners because it has a great story with few words. Dinon Alex, the main character is accused of murdering the old president, a crime he did not commit. Then begins an endless trail of life and death, encountering many obstacles that must be faced to get out alive.

About the Author

Ben Mezrich graduated magna cum laude from Harvard in 1991. He has published twelve books, including the New York Times bestsellers The Accidental Billionaires, which was adapted into the Academy Award-winning film The Social Network, and Bringing Down the House, which has sold more than 1.5 million copies in twelve languages and became the basis for the Kevin Spacey movie 21. Best Novel Ever!!!

This is my favorite novel of all times!!! It is a business story written with the intensity of a crime thriller. Ben Mezrich has an uncanny ability to pull the reader into the storyline with a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat ride into his world. I was so enthralled by this first novel that I couldn't wait to read more by this author, and he has never disappointed. If you love action, intrigue and suspense and perhaps learning about fascinating worlds into which the author delves, you will adore this writing as much as I have.

Nabokov's fourth novel, The Eye is as much a farcical detective story as it is a profoundly refractive tale about the vicissitudes of identities and appearances. Nabokov's protagonist, Smurov, is a lovelorn, excruciatingly self-conscious Russian emigre living in prewar Berlin, who commits suicide after being humiliated by a jealous husband, only to suffer even greater indignities in the afterlife.

About the Author
One of the twentieth century’s master prose stylists, Vladimir Nabokov was born in St. Petersburg in 1899. He studied French and Russian literature at Trinity College, Cambridge, then lived in Berlin and Paris, where he launched a brilliant literary career. In 1940 he moved to the United States, and achieved renown as a novelist, poet, critic and translator. He taught literature at Wellesley, Stanford, Cornell, and Harvard. In 1961 he moved to Montreux, Switzerland, where he died in 1977.

Eye Scream Ewe Scream We All Scream...

... for more Nabokov! If only he'd been as prolific as Anthony Trollope. This short novella, written in Berlin in 1930, is not nearly the apex of Nab's oeuvre, but it's awfully good. Even when no one could mistake his lepidopterine syntax, it's fun to see him writing in a new genre with every book. The Eye is a tale in the 'doppelg�nger' tradition of Poe's William Wilson, Hawthorne's Wakefield, and Melville's The Confidence Man, though there's no reason to assume that Nabokov was aware of his American forerunners. Since the whole novella is built around the reader's dawning suspicions, I can't say much more about the plot without spoiling your pleasure.

The Marxist Revolution makes a cameo appearance in The Eye - its Russian title was closer to 'The Spy' - as in nearly all of Nab's books. In a brief dismissal of historical determinism, he writes: "Luckily no such laws exist: a toothache will cost a battle, a drizzle cancel an insurrection. Everything is fluid, everything depends on chance, and all in vain were the efforts of that crabbed bougeois in Victorian checkered trousers, author of Das Kapital, fruit of insomnia and migraine. There is a titillating pleasure in looking back at the past and asking oneself 'What would have happened if...' and substituting one chance occurrence for another, observing how, from a gray, barren, humdrum moment in one's life, there grows forth a marvelous rosy event that in reality had failed to flower. A mysterious thing, this branching structure of life..." That, my friends, is not only an eloquent dismissal of Marxism but also a fine statement of evolutionary contingency.

"And yet I am happy. Yes, happy. I swear, I swear I am happy. I have realized that the only happiness in this world is to observe, to spy, to watch, to scrutinize one self and others, to be nothing but a big, slightly vitreous, somewhat bloodshot, unblinking eye. I swear that this is happiness."
Okay, I'll accept that, as long as this eye has another Nabokov novel to read.

One of Nabokov's best novels.

The Eye is often overlooked because it is so short (around 100 pages in most editions) and because it turns on a gimmick: the narrator kills himself near the start of the story and then finds that his thoughts live on "by momentum." But it is Nabokov's special gift to make his tricks more than just tricks, and The Eye is the first of his books to do this on a grand scale. In some ways this is among the most moving of Nabokov's works, as well as one of the most entertaining.

Not his best, but essential

In later works, Nabokov mused on the nature of identity with sharper, more amusing, and more penetrating results. But this book, by my count, was his first lengthy foray into the subject. In Smurov, he created a character whose self-image is an attempt at an amalgamation of the Smurov's everyone who knows him sees. A fun meditation on the importance of the opinions of others and a compelling death story. Much more, of course. And, of course, beautiful, beautiful.

Those years in America, the 1920s, are often considered as the Roaring Twenties: a decade of great social change, a decade of jazz, an age of success and American Dream, an age of everything. The American Dream is often described as the aspiration of young Americans to live better than their parents: without war, poverty and misfortune but with love, wealth and happiness. In fact after World War I many Americans wished to return to the peaceful time they had before the war. During the 1920s, Americans focused on building economic prosperity and most people focused on the present with little concern for the future: life became easier and more enjoyable. Unfortunately, this age of prosperity, complete independence, self-reliance and opportunity quickly became an age of downfall: in order to pursue this utopia, people were asked to work harder. In consequence they could not prosper themselves but only endured.

Fitzgerald condemns this American society of the 1920s that has lost its pursuit of progress for happiness to finally become purely materialistic and corrupt.

In this essay, I will deal with the road from the Midwest to New York City and the road from West Egg to East Egg both exemplifying the decay of the American Dream, personified by the characters of Jay Gatsby and Nick Carraway, as there is a strong relationship in the novel between the geography of the roads and the characters’ social values. On the one hand is the journey of Nick Carraway coming from the Midwest and going to New York City where he discovers corruption and immorality. On the other hand we find the road Jay Gatsby is following to be accepted among the wealthiest and to be loved by Daisy. This road, from West Egg to East Egg, represents the movement from solemnity and honesty to obsession of class and privilege.

I wish to show that these two roads epitomize the decay of the American Dream: through two main characters of the novel and in two different ways that we will discover in this essay, the two roads or journeys that are followed by these two characters start from a point of moral prosperity to move them towards a state of moral decay: Gatsby more profoundly than the Nick. This essay will be twofold: the first part will concern the road from West Egg to East Egg that Jay Gatsby follows while the second part will deal with the road of Nick Carraway: the road from the Midwest to New York City.

This Book Delivers

I felt this book gave a clear understanding of the components that were listed. It wasn't too bogged down with technical jargon that you couldn't understand what was being written about the components. For me, this book provided valuable information that has helped me in my understanding components better than I did before I purchased and read the book. An example, for instance, was a drawing on an 8-pin opamp that I had been trying to find out what each pins function was. The drawing was clear, and defined each opamp pin with definitions. This was very helpful and useful in my analog electronics circuit building. Personally, I felt like the book was well worth the money. And now, I would not be without it in my library.

Not a reference, and not an introductory text

The book's subtitle is "A Complete Reference for Project Builders". It should be "A Glossing Over for People Who Already Know About Electronics".
The first half of the book is an (incomplete) in-depth explanation about electricity, resistance, capacitance, and inductance. The next 75 pages cover semiconductors, going in-depth about junctions then diodes, then glossing over the various transistor types.
The last third of the book is a thorough glossing over of various ICs, transducers, and 10 pages on switches.
In other words, don't get this book if you're a beginner, because you will be confused by what it leaves out. Don't get this book if you are looking for a reference, because you will be frustrated by what it leaves out. And don't get it if you are looking for a refresher on electronics theory, as you will be dissatisfied with it's overly simplistic explanations.

About the Author
George Ehrenhaft has been writing for Barron's for over three decades. During that time he has been the author or co-author of books on the SAT, the ACT, and both the AP English Literature and AP English Language exams. Other titles relate to English grammar and essay writing, especially writing college application essays. He has also written several Barron's Book Notes titles about literature, including The Grapes of Wrath. and A Streetcar Named Desire.

Ehrenhaft spent most of his career teaching English in Westchester County, New York, at Fox Lane and Mamaroneck High Schools. He is now a resident of Moraga, California, where he has become a prolific watercolor painter.

Get a 5 on your AP test!

This book helped my daughter get a 5 on her AP exam! Without it, she wouldn't have the extra practice and strategies she could only get from a source made specifically to help on the AP Test, as apposed to relying strictly on her textbook or her teacher who has 50+ students to prepare.

Joseph S. Nye is University Distinguished Service Professor at and former Dean of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He also served as�a Deputy to the Undersecretary of State in the Carter Administration, Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs in the Clinton Administration, and Chair of the National Intelligence Council.
